E.L.I.

E.L.I. is a work-in-progress manuscript about a seventeen-year-old young black man named Jay who has nothing but the memory of his grandmother. She was killed by a police officer right in front of him when he was seven years old.

Ten years have passed and he still grieves and blames himself for her death as she was killed protecting him. The only thing he has left is his grandmother’s amethyst necklace until that too is snatched from him.  Soon after, an “evil spirit” who looks just like his grandmother appears! She does nothing but reinforce how bleak Jay’s life has been since his grandmother’s death and how he is to blame for everything. Her goal? To physically possess his body. If she succeeds, Jay will be trapped away in his own mind with no escape!

However, the evil spirit’s presence activates Jay’s ultimate source of protection, his E.L.I.!  It is a magical “second heart” everyone has inside of them that holds everything they love. When used, the person feels an immense amount of joy and happiness. It can become so powerful, it can feel as if you’re in a whole new world, at least for Jay. But for him to use it properly, he must practice loving himself, as it is the only way to be able to use E.L.I. at will and push away the evil spirit forever. Jay must make a choice, will he succumb to pressures of fear, anger and decide to permanently hide away deep inside his mind? Or will he learn to love himself, nurture and save his E.L.I., move forward in his life and finally learn to live without his grandmother?
